The Nationalist Congress Party (abbr. NCP) is one of the eight national parties in India.
The NCP was formed on 25 May 1999, by Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar after they were expelled from the Indian National Congress (INC) on 20 May 1999, for disputing the right of Italian-born Sonia Gandhi to lead the party.
At the time of formation of the NCP, the Indian Congress (Socialist) party merged with the new party
Ajit Anantrao Pawar is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra, who is the current senior Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly representing Baramati constituency. He is the nephew of Sharad Pawar, the chief of Nationalist Congress Party.
Supriya Sule is an Indian politician from the Nationalist Congress Party and currently a Member of Parliament in 15th,16th and 17th Lok Sabha representing Baramati. In 2011, she launched a statewide campaign against female foeticide.
Sule was born to Sharad and Pratibhatai Sharadchandra Pawar on 30 June 1969 in Pune. She was educated at Jai Hind College in Mumbai, earning a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology. She married Sadanand Bhalchandra Sule on 4 March 1991 and is mother of Vijay (son) and Revati (daughter).Like her father, Supriya Sule is also an Ambedkarite.
